Ravi Coltrane will be playing with his quartet, including the recording members Andy Milne (piano) and Darryl Hall (bass). Listen to the hottest groove out door!

Here comes the latest album of Ravi Coltrane. All the sequences and arrangements are by Ravi himself. "It is difficult to challenge on complicated arrangements on the road. But I am sure with these members, we can make interesting interpretations on well-known standards" was his first concept. This album contains his most updated style as an artist who is evolving each day. Nine tunes in this album are in full variety. There are two tunes of John Coltrane, which Ravi feels respect as a same instrumentalist - the reason he selected this tune was that he found the tunes interesting as a musician himself, and not because that John was his father. There are other standard tunes such as "Ask Me Now" and "'Round Midnight", and of course some compositions by Ravi Coltrane himself. There were two different units collaborating on this project; one with George Colligan (piano) and Darryl Hall (bass), and another with Andy Milne (piano) and James Genus (bass). Drummer Steve Hass participates on both units. There are free improvisational tunes with each unit, which might also arouse the interest in listening. The quality, energy and the tension of each improvisation tells how strongly they are united as a group. Listeners may find Ravi's sound got more deeper and calmer compared to his former recordings. This album is a true "document" of an artist who is moving on every day proving he is working his sound out for himself - and is surely an impressive big step for his next activities.

Ravi Coltrane

Born on August 6, 1965, Huntington, New York as the son of John and Alice Coltrane. John Coltrane passed away when Ravi was two. While he had a musical upbringing by his mother and began playing fairly early, he did not commence a jazz vocation until he was in his early twenties. He joined with Elvin Jones' group from 91, and started to raise his career. Since then, he has performed with Jack DiJohnette, Rasid Ali, Billy Cobham, Roy Hayne, Kenny Barron, Steve Coleman and Yosuke Yamashita, just to name a few. Besides guesting with notable musicians he forms his own band, and tours around world wide.
