The world's finest musicians shares the moment with the most substantial and exciting drummer in the art of jazz
Roy Haynes has been working with the musicians on the cutting edge in every decade since the '40s. His energetic style and the challenging sprit has never weakened, on the contrary, remaining very fresh (in his outlook too). His pick for the collaborating musicians is always finest, which brings the credit as "master drummer and the bandleader" of the world.

This album features two great settings: one date featuring tenor saxophone (Joshua Redman, Kenny Barron and Christian McBride), and the other with guitar (John Scofield, David Kikoski and Dave Holland). The format varies according to the piece; it can be said that the beauty of jazz music is condensed in this very album. The listeners will be enchanted by the versatile and flexible performance of each artists, including the amazing drums solo piece "Shades of Senegal 2". Haynes also pay homage to the musicians he has worked with in his early career by picking "Stompin' at the Savoy" in the repertoire - the legendary Savoy Ballroom was the very first club where Haynes has performed when he first came to New York in 1945. This coolest and dashing drummer surely "beats" our imagination - with his art of drumming.

Roy Haynes

Born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, March 13, 1925. Primarily self-taught, he began to work locally before getting a call in 1945 to join Luis Russell's orchestra. In '47 he became the drummer for Lester Young, and then did a "Jazz at the Philharmonic" tour in '49. After JATP he returned to New York and played with a number of prominent musicians on the famed 52nd Street, including Miles Davis, Bud Powell before joing Charlie Parker's band. In '53 he began working with Sarah Vaughan until '58, then worked with Thelonious Monk, Eric Dolphy, Stan . He also subbed for Elvin Jones with John Coltrane Quartet from 1963-1965. He has collaborated with Chick Corea since 1968, and with Pat Metheny during the 1990s. He's been an active bandleader from the late '50s to the present. He is one of the last innovators from the '40s who is still offering something new.
