The New Sound Quartet is a
co-leader project featuring Joe Locke and Geoffrey Keezer. Two genuine
artists evoke each other's inspiration to the extent -- and the "new
sound" is created.
The classic standard tunes are carefully arranged, given the original
and fresh new lives. It first might be difficult to tell "All The
Things You Are" by blind fold; it is arranged
by Keezer, whom had the arrangement idea for nearly ten years. The
treatment perfectly matches the group name -- "the new sound".
Original compositions are written for this date. Keezer's "Tulipa" is
named after the scientific name for the flower "tulip". According to
Keezer, the song is dedicated to vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, who
loves to cultivate tulips. Locke's original composition "The King (For
T.M.)" is dedicated to his longtime friend.
